In a first-of-its-kind in-game integration, Nissan hid their SUV lineup in the viral game GeoGuessr and counted on Twitch streamers and their viewers to go find them.
Nissan wanted to show lifelong adventurers that their SUV lineup keeps up when you level up, ready for any on-or-off road challenge you want to take it on. The brand recognized that the thrill of adventure can take many forms, often right on your phone, from the comfort of your own couch. Nissan set out to meet adventurers on the road wherever they may be, and with Twitch, they could put hundreds of thousands of thrill-seekers behind the wheel of a Rogue or Pathfinder on an off-the-beaten-path test drive without ever making them leave that couch.
Gamers across the globe rely on GeoGuessr to satiate that appetite for exploration, visiting the most-remote places without ever leaving the safety and comfort of home.
A team of seasoned car photographers set out on an epic road trip across the American Southwest, hiding the Rogue and Pathfinder in locations that displayed each of the vehicles unique set of skills—off-road capability, masterful control in inclement weather, dominance of steep hills, and more. The dramatic and adventurous scenes were captured as 360-degree photospheres, and uploaded directly into the Google Streetview API and served as the building blocks for the custom GeoGuessr Nissan game.
Four Twitch streams generated over 3 million combined views with over 6 million minutes watched. The custom GeoGuessr game resulted in 100,000 map clips, and over 10,000 Nissan map games played.
